What Should Be Happening to Our Relationships?

December 3, 2017 Speaker: Jason Whitley Series: The Commitments and Distinctives of Our Local Church

Introduction

God calls us into a friendship with His Son, and as members of the same Body (Christ), we all relate to one another. This relationship can be summed up in a word - discipleship. Three ways to view discipleship are:

  1. Discipleship is helping others to follow Jesus. (Intentional)
  2. Discipleship is the responsibility of everybody.
  3. Discipleship is a local church project.

Ways to Disciple One Another

  1. Ephesians 6:18
  2. Romans 12:10
  3. Romans 15:14
  4. Galatians 6:2
  5. Romans 16:16
  6. Mark 9:50
  7. James 5:16
  8. Ephesians 4:32
  9. Ephesians 4:25
  10. 1 Peter 5:5

Application (Hebrews 10:24)

  1. Do a personal study on discipleship.
  2. Share your testimony or ask them to share their testimony with you. Become a member of a local church.
  3. Talk about spiritual matters. Get conversations deeper than surface issues.
  4. Longer after church services.
  5. Read books about discipleship. (Example: “The Trellis and the Vine” by A. S. Payne and Colin Marshall)
  6. Serve someone else.
  7. Read Scripture with someone.
  8. Pray for someone.
  9. Invite others into your life.
  10. Get trained in biblical counseling.
  11. Identify a missing “one another” in your life.
  12. Read the Gospels.
  13. Be available.
