Work Out Your Salvation

Speaker: Jason Whitley Scripture: Philippians 2:12–13

In his letter to the Philippians, Paul remarks that God will see to completion the good work that He has begun in His saints. But, he also implores them graphically to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling.
How can both of these be true? How can we work out salvation which God will certainly see to completion anyway? As always, the answer lies within Scripture.

Three Aspects of Working Out Your Salvation

  1. The Encouragement
  2. The Exhortation
  3. The Empowerment
  1. The Encouragement to Work Out Your Salvation

Philippians 2:12  “my beloved”
Philippians 2:12  “…as you have always obeyed…”
Philippians 2:12  “…not only as in my presence but much more in my absence...”

  1. The Empowerment to Work Out Your Salvation

Philippians 2:12  “…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling"
Romans 4:5
Philippians 1:6

Two types of sanctification: Positional & Progressive
Two common wrong views of sanctification: Quietism (“Deeper Life” theology) & Pietism

  1. The Empowerment to Work Out Your Salvation

Philippians 2:13
I Corinthians 15:10
