3 Essentials for Understanding God's Will

Apr 7, 2024

We've been in Ephesians for a while and this is a mini-series jumping off from Ephesians 5:17 and covering the top of Discerning God's will by understanding Scripture. It's a big topic that affects all of us in life.

The Three Essentials to help understand God's Will are:

1. GIVE YOURSELF TO PRAYER - Be devoted to it. Be persistent in it. Trust in God's Sovereignty.

2. GO TO THE WORD - We get Scriptural guidance (Psalm 119:18) Ask God to open our eyes, Engage in consistent study (Proverbs 2:1-6) highlights the importance of treasuring God's commands & seeking wisdom. Meditate on the Word. Slow down and let the Word's truth permeate your thoughts & guide your actions.

3. GET WISE COUNSEL - (Proverbs 12:15 & 15:22) emphasize the value of seeking wise counsel. Be teachable.

AVOID COMMON PITALLS

Traditions of Men ** Seeking Human approval ** Misinterpreting circumstances ** Desires & dreams ** Misusing God's Word.

As believers, we are called to walk wisely, making decisions that glorify God and reflect Christ's character. Let us embrace these three essentials, trusting in God's sovereignty and His perfect will for our lives.

CLOSING PRAYER

"Lord, we are thankful that you have given us the light of your word. We are thankful that you have given us each other in our lives. We do not run the Christian race alone, and we are thankful that you have given us access to the throne of grace, that we might find help in time of need. Lord, would you show us? Or would you teach us, or would you lead us in Your ways? Would you lead us in the right direction that would glorify you? Lord, we thank you that you are always in control, that you are working all things for good. And as Newton said, Lord, even in our mistakes, you overrule them for your glory, and You use them to our advantage. We pray in your name. Amen."
