Dr. Street critiques the modern emphasis on self-love and self-esteem, which has infiltrated even Christian circles. He contrasts this with the biblical call to self-denial, as seen in Luke 9:23.


The Bible assumes that we already love ourselves too much. Instead of focusing on self-esteem, parents should teach their children to love others as they love themselves (Matthew 22:36-40).


This shift away from self-centeredness toward Christ-centeredness is essential for raising godly children.
